Obama’s victory
Written by Johan on January 27, 2008 – 5:23 pmIt was no surprise that Obama won the South Carolina primary, but it is surprising that the victory was so large. The most interesting piece of news comes from Swedish blogger Dick Erixon, who reports that Obama won a majority of non-black voters aged 18-29. Not only is Obama very popular with the young people in general; he also manages to get them excited enough to actually vote.
This should certainly make the Clinton camp a bit worried, though she must still be considered the favourite. I am not so sure that there will be a clear winner even after February 5.
Most importantly this primary was a big loss for identity politics, which is a good thing. White people will vote for Obama, black people for Clinton, and women for both. That is well.
