Weekend watching
Written by Johan on November 8, 2009 – 2:44 pmI’d like to point you to two good talks, both of them interesting on their own.
First it is David Deutsch, a physicist at Oxford, talking about how we gain knowledge, what separates a good explanation from a bad one, and how discovering good explanations has allowed progress on a scale previously unheard of. You can watch it here.
The second is by George Mason economist Tyler Cowen, on both the prevalence and the limits of story-based thinking. You’ll find it here.
Taken together the two talks paints a rather interesting picture, particularly for economists and other social scientists. Their combination has a lot to offer ordinary media consumers as well.
