THERE IS HOPE
A report published by Skattebetalarnas förening (The Taxpayer's Association) provides
some hope to the centre-right opposition in Sweden, and their much needed, and in my
opinion too cautious, tax cutting policies.
According to the report only one of out ten questioned feels that the government spends
the tax money well. Six out of ten feels that they are wasteful and only one in three thinks
that the tax pressure is reasonable compared to what we get for it in terms of public services.
The last result, in particular, is very surprising and directly contrary to the picture given by
the left wing mainstream media. It's also gives you a lot of hope, and should tell the opposition's
biggest party, the Conservative Party, that people do care about taxes and that they shouldn't move
too far to the left in these issues (they've taken quite a couple of steps in that direction after Mr
Reinfeldt was elected party leader). There may still be hope for change.
